What changes when you install a custom ROM

A custom ROM replaces part or all of the operating-system software supplied by the manufacturer. It can change the Android version, interface, update channel, privacy model and bundled applications.

It does not change the physical modem, camera sensor, battery condition or unsupported hardware. Missing vendor drivers can reduce camera quality, cellular reliability, fingerprint support or charging features.

The safe decision rule

Install only a build that explicitly lists your exact model code or device codename. A phone with the same marketing name can have different regional hardware, partition layouts or bootloader policies.

Use the ROM project’s current device page as the installation authority. This Academy explains the method, but the maintainer’s exact commands and required firmware version take priority.

Common outcomes

A successful installation should boot, encrypt data, receive updates, preserve calls and mobile data, and provide a documented recovery path.

A failed or mismatched installation can cause a boot loop, loss of radio functions, an unbootable device, a permanent warranty/security fuse change or loss of protected services.

Critical safety boundary

Unlocking and flashing can erase data, weaken device security, disable protected services or make a phone unbootable. Use only your own device, exact model-specific instructions and a tested stock restore path.
