What a GSI is
A Generic System Image is an AOSP system image intended primarily for compatibility testing on Treble-compliant devices. It does not guarantee full support for cameras, biometrics, modem features or vendor applications.
Dynamic System Updates can boot a GSI temporarily on supported devices without replacing the installed system, making DSU a safer learning route when available.
Compatibility checks
Confirm Treble support, architecture, partition type, AVB requirements and the exact Android release. Use official GSI documentation and device-specific reports.
Do not use a GSI as a shortcut around an unsupported bootloader or unknown partition layout.
When to stop
If the phone is a daily driver, has no stock recovery path, or relies on critical accessibility/medical/work features, prefer a maintained device-specific ROM or keep stock.
Unlocking and flashing can erase data, weaken device security, disable protected services or make a phone unbootable. Use only your own device, exact model-specific instructions and a tested stock restore path.
